Höllgrotten Baar (Hell-Grotto, Baar) / International Earthcache Day 2014

Leave a comment Standard

Hey Folks!

Last Sunday (12th of October) was the International Earthcache Day 2014. Together with my Mom we searched for a cool Earthcache-Location so we would earn the souvenir of this year. We decided to visit the Höllgrotten in Baar, a beautiful cave-landscape. There were also plenty of traditional Geocaches in Baar and in Zug, so we were busy the entire day. Luckily we had a lot of sunshine and warm temperatures. 🙂

We started in Baar by visiting the Höllgrotten, as it was our chief aim to find the right answers for the Earthcache. The Höllgrotten caves are unlike any other stalactite cave on earth. While other grottos were created deep underground – a process which takes millions of years – the Höllgrotten caves were formed on the surface over a relatively short period of time, approximately 3000 years.

The "green beard" growing over the tufa here is the result of artificial illumination.

As I read on the Höllgrotten-Website, there’s constant dripping inside the caves, so didn’t take my reflex camera (Nikon D7000) with me, but the less expensive digital camera Nikon Coolpix S6600. It was difficult to take good shots in the caves, as the light-situation was different to everything I’ve ever photographed before… Nevertheless I kept on trying… 🙂 I also tried to film the spectacular scene at the “Zauberschloss” (enchanted castle).

Finding the answers required for the Earthcache was not difficult at all, as they were all printed on the information boards, and the listing even gave the numbers of the corresponding info boards.

After having completed the Earthcache we went back to the car and approached two traditional Geocaches by car. After that we parked somewhere near the railway station “Zug Schutzengel”. Then we continued our tour by feet:

Hey Folks,

I know it’s been quite a while since my last post… I’ve gone through some troubled times lately, but now I’m back on track. 🙂

I just want you to know: I finally found courage to resign from my job, and I will be free from 1st of December ’14… 🙂 Of course I feel a little insecure about my future, but well… As we say in German: “Lieber ein Ende mit Schrecken als Schrecken ohne Ende”.

I feel positive about finding something new for January 2015, something that will be more interesting and challenging, and also something that gives me some room for further development of myself,  personally but also businesswise. I’m thinking about going back to an NGO’s office or maybe also find a place in the hotel- and tourist-branch, so I can make use of all the languages I speak and practice / improve them. 🙂

I can use a few more days off in December to prepare for my exams before Christmas, do some Christmas shopping and hopefully also to fly to Czech Republic again. 🙂 I miss my second home and family terribly.

Right now I’m working on my application dossier, and I feel super happy about my first professional application photo 😀 You wanna see it? Well,… here it is:IMG_9224.JPG

Which one do you prefer? I think I’m going for the colored one, as there’s enough of black-and-white in the world… 🙂 Just wanted to try out the poll-feature from wordpress… I’ve never used it before, haha…:

Well I have to rush off now, as Uni is calling, but I’m trying my best to post more often, as I feel very relieved and less stressed now I made the decision. And still I have several holiday-pictures from London, Munich and the Czech Republic as well as a ton of new recipes to share with you. I hope I’ll be able to prepare some posts for you this week. 🙂

Hugs and lots of love to all of you.

Sunset when I arrived in Zurich after my holidays in Czech Republic

Sunset when I arrived in Zurich after my holidays in Czech Republic

I have to be honest – I failed again terribly on my pledge to post regularly… But well, I think you get used to it, right? And maybe that’s another step-by-step improvement I’m facing, haha.

Anyway, July went by in a flash, and I enjoyed almost every minute of it. I worked a lot, but I also had some driving lessons with D2.’s Dad and my driving instructor, and it’s getting better and better. D2.’s Dad said, that I am almost ready for driving on the freeway – yippie! Maybe I’ll finish this whole drivers-license-procedure before University starts again. 🙂

Then I traveled again to beautiful Czech Republic for a week, where I met V., his family and some friends I knew from former trips. The weather was awesome, and we spent a lot of time on the lakeside. 🙂 And we also went to Soost, a nature conservancy area with hot tubes, and the last day, we spent in the zoo in Prague. 🙂 But the most beautiful thing was the birth of 5 kittens on my penultimate day at V.’s place. I’ve never seen anything so tiny and cute as those kittens. Unfortunately, 3 of the 5 babies didn’t make it… But still, the two remaining ones develop beautifully. ❤

Furthermore, I completed the Swiss-Monopoly geocaching-series. I first managed to do the Whereigo-Cache in Winterthur with my Mom the last Sunday, and then we completed the series with the Geocaches in Thun, Fribourg and the two in Berne – Yeee-Haw! 😀

Finally, I started into August by saying goodbye to my dear friend Eli, who’s finished her semester abroad and went back home on saturday. I’ll miss her, but I’m sure I’m going to visit her soon! 🙂

And now I will prepare the blogposts about my trips to London, Brighton and the Czech Republic, which I owe you for so long already… Shame on me… 😉

Have a good start into the new week!

An Evening Walk Through Zurich and a Flight to Prague

Leave a comment Standard

Hey Folks,

Last friday, I couldn’t wait to get out of work as I was meeting Eli, a friend that I first met earlier this year at the University, during the *Language and the Media“- and *English in New Zealand“-Lectures..

We decided to meet at the Zurich main station, then find some drinks and a snack and walk towards lake Zurich, where we hoped to find a place for a little picnic. 🙂 While walking there, we found this  street sign, saying:  No-Sharks-in-the-Limmat-River-Zurich.JPG

“No Sharks in the Limmat River in Zurich.

The municipal police of Zurich gives the all-clear: In the flowing waters of Zurich is absolutely no risk of being attacked by sharks. Nevertheless, swimming between the “Quai bridge“ and the river baths „Oberer Letten“ is dangerous and therefore forbidden.”

What a great idea to catch people’s attention – and it’s so much funnier than the usual prohibition signs in the city. 😀

The Sun is setting over Lake Zurich

We found a lovely place under a tree close to the water, where we sat down, had our beers and ate “pom-bears“. We talked a lot, about everything at all. It felt like we’ve known each other for ages. 🙂

After finishing our beers, we went for some ice cream. I picked dark chocolate, and the seller gave me some mango-icecream to try. A very funny and nice guy, and the ice cream was delicious, too… 😀

We strolled along the lakeside and enjoyed the view on the lake. We decided to go back to the main station just in time, as there was a huge thunderstorm approaching us from the other side of the lake. It was windy and we could already see the lightning dancing in the dark, cloudy sky when we turned around. Just when we arrived at the station, it began to rain heavily… But still, it was an awesome evening, and I hope we can repeat that, soon… 🙂

Here are some more pictures that I took during the evening walk.

By the way, I finally booked a flight back to Czech Republic last week. I’ll leave Zurich on the 18th of July, and I’ll return on the 24th. I really can’t wait to see my friends and my second family back in Czech Republic again. And I’m really wondering how big the kittens have grown, which were born only three weeks before I went there in April. 🙂 I’m really super-excited. Unfortunately, my mobility is still quite limited, as I still haven’t got my driver’s license. So we will stay in the Karlovy Vary Region. The last day we want to spend in the Zoo in Prague – I love Zoos a lot! For the other days we haven’t made any plans yet – suggestions would be highly appreciated. 🙂

White Chocolate-Strawberry Cream Curd

Leave a comment Standard

Hey Folks,

today I wanna share a super-simple but delicious strawberry-dessert-recipe that can be done no time. 🙂 I did it on last monday morning, as I wanted to treat D.’s dad with something nice, as he gives me free driving lessons so I don’t have to spend as much money on a „real“ driving-teacher, although he has to drive about an hour per way when he’s picking me up, and another hour to get back home… 🙂 Anyway, I loved it, D did, and his dad loved it, too. 🙂 As I had a small bowl of the dessert left, I gave it to a friend, who liked it as well. 🙂 I’d say it got a 5-star-rating from all the four of us 😀

White Chocolate Strawberry Cream Curd

For 4 servings you’ll need:

100g white Chocolate
2 tablespoons of powdered sugar
6 tablespoons milk
250g fresh strawberries
500g cream curd
200 ml cream (or whipped cream)

    1. Chop the white chocolate into small bits and melt it slowly with the powdered sugar and milk in a small pot on a low heat with stirring.
    2. Wash the strawberries. Put some aside to decorate your dessert when finished. Purée the rest with a hand-held blender. Scramble the melted chocolate-mixture with the cream curd. Whip the cream and mix it with the chocolate-curd. Put a layer of curd in a small glass bowl, add a layer of strawberry-purée and put another layer of curd on top. Put the glasses into the fridge for at least 2 hours. Garnish with some strawberries before serving.

Enjoy! 🙂

It’s Sunday, finally…

Howdy my friends!

It’s sunday, finally! I’m super happy that this week is over. I worked like 44 hours in 4 days, as we had to prepare our store for the inventory that took place last night… Nevertheless, we seemed terribly unprepared for the inventory. 😦 I’m being frustrated at my job already for some weeks now, and yesterday I’ve decided that it was time for something new. Tomorrow I’ll start writing letters of application again – certainly not a funny thing to do, but  -as Linkin Park have put it in their song “Shadow of the Day” – sometimes goodbye’s the only way. It’s not a healthy way, working 60% besides University when you’re one of the only employees that actually care about their store and their business etc., becoming anxious and stressed whenever you leave home for work… :-/ Don’t get me wrong, I actually love my co-workers as persons, but working with them just doesn’t work out… So I’ve asked my ex-boss from our store (we got a new store-manager 3 weeks ago, but that’s not enough time to judge someones on merit) to send me an interim-report. Yesterday, around mid-night, I’ve already checked for some job-advertisements online, and I’m quite confident to find something that fits me better. 🙂

But there were also good times this week! 🙂 I don’t know whether I’ve already told you that I’m only half Swiss… the other half’s Dutch. I don’t think I have to tell you that Friday night was quite a happy and joyful night for me. 5:1 against or rival from the last World Championship… Unbelievable! 😀

So, and now I’ll rush off, I really have to re-tint my hair, and I’m gonna meet a friend from Spain this afternoon, before I’ll go to the “Böllebar”, a public viewing location in our village. Switzerland will be playing against Ecuador at 6 p.m…. 😀

How are you spending your sunday?
